    Job Description
    Do you have youth development, camp counselor, or education experience? Do you want to spend your summer operating, guiding, and developing a vibrant recreation day camp in a beautiful wooded setting in Apalachin NY?  If so, you could be Waterman Conservation Education Center’s new Camp Program Director!

    For 43 years, the Waterman Center has provided environmental education and outdoor recreation opportunities to the residents of Broome and Tioga counties.  Our mission is to promote environmental literacy while encouraging people to get outside and enjoy our natural areas.  
    For over 20 years we’ve offered a youth recreation day camp during the summer for children between the ages of 6 and 12 which includes games, hikes, crafts, and other activities.  This year camp will run between July 1st and August 23rd from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM.  Early drop off is offered one hour prior and one hour after regular camp hours. 
    Job Responsibilities:
    The Camp Program Director is responsible for the overall operation of the camp, including developing the summer camp program, creating the schedule, managing the staff of camp counselors, and managing any crisis or emergency.  The Camp Program Director will work with the Executive Director to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and that the camp safety plan is followed.  The Camp Program Director will also work with the Executive Director to determine the camps’ staffing needs and to interview, hire, and train camp staff.  At the end of the season, the Camp Program Director will work with the Executive Director to analyze and evaluate the camp’s effectiveness based on parent and counselor surveys, the camps goals, and the Camp Program Director’s recommendations.
    Required Education, Skills, and Experience:
    • 18 years or older.
    • Bachelor’s Degree in education, natural science, human services, or youth development preferred.
    • 3-5 years’ experience teaching, leading, or supervising youth with preference to summer camp or recreation experience.
    • 3-5 years management experience.
    • Ability to pass a background check.
    • Current (or ability to obtain) first aid and CPR certifications
