leadershipEffective leadership is a key element in any successful community. Continually developing and encouraging the participation of new leaders is essential in developing fresh ideas and perspectives and ensuring a continuity of leaders for the future.

The Tioga County Chamber of Commerce is proud to be the host of this exciting Leadership Program.  Leadership Tioga was established in 1999 to encourage community leadership in the county. The interactive 10 month program helps participants better understand issues facing Tioga County.  The program has graduated over two hundred people since its inception.  Participants have utilized the skills they have learned to make their communities better places to live and work.

Leadership Tioga is a program designed to assist, educate, inform and empower leaders. The program enlists candidates who live or work in Tioga County and are interested in developing their leadership skills and knowledge of community issues, as well as pursuing leadership roles in their community and career.

Classes begin in September and consist of half-day sessions with several full day meetings. Classes are held in various locations in Tioga County to offer participants an opportunity to experience the flavor of the county. Presentations are made on various subjects such as: Education, Human Services, Tourism/Arts and Culture, Agriculture, Volunteerism and “Vision for Tioga County. - Your Leadership Role.” On occasion, Leadership Tioga meets with leadership programs from surrounding counties for combined meetings to network and share ideas. Skill Building Session helps identify and improve leadership skills.  The program year ends in May with a formal graduation ceremony.

Leadership can be described in many ways. People who have a passion - being set apart from others to work for a cause. Leaders energize those around them to work on a common goal or to empower people to work for the betterment of others. Such leaders care little about receiving credit but rather getting the job done. Leaders pursue programs and projects to make a positive difference in their communities.

The Tioga Chamber is pleased to lead this initiative to develop enthusiastic, well-informed leaders who are committed to making positive contributions to the community.
